Father Filomeno Jacob, S.J. was born in Dili, Timor Leste in 1960. In 1982 he obtained the Baccalaureate in Philosophy at Sekolah Tinggi Filsafat/Teologi Katolik in Ledalero, in Flores, Indonesia; in 1988, a Baccalaureate in Theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University; in1992 a Licentiate in Moral Theology at the Institut d’Ètudes Théologiques di Bruxelles (Belgium) and, in 1997, a Doctorate in Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Oxford (UK). In 1998 he was ordained a priest in the Society of Jesus.
After holding a variety of public positions in the service of his country and local church in Timor Leste, in 2014 he was called to work in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Gregorian. He offered courses in the sociology of religions, international relations, culture and power, conflict and peace. In the Academic Year 2017-2018 he will offer courses in the anthropology of religions, international geopolitics, culture and power, and the construction of reality. Within the University he also holds the role of Delegate of the Rector in the Bursary Office.
